Refurbishment and renovation of the existing Grade ll listed Mountbatten House building, which was once sited as one of the 15 most important listed buildings in the UK, to modernise its facilities while preserving its architectural landscape.
Situated on a sloping site, the building comprises six floors with extensive carparking on levels 1 and 2, office spaces occupying levels 2 to 6 and the main entrance at level 3.
Part of Level 3 was repurposed from Class B1(a) office space to a Class A3 cafe. Other alterations included revised parking arrangements, a new entrance and landscaping improvements. Accessibility was improved with step-free access to the terraces and an efficient dripline irrigation system replaced the original system to support sustainable garden maintenance.
The project also included the fitout of the new flagship headquarters for Automobile Association (AA) featuring:
•Double theatre-space atrium with bespoke joinery
•2 nr. floors of contemporary open workspace
•Series of meeting rooms
Sustainability enhancements included:
•Rainwater harvesting for garden irrigation
•Photovoltaic cells on the roof to generate renewable energy
•Glass recycling programme to repurpose materials from demolition works
The building achieved BREEAM Outstanding certification.
